Was sind eigentlich Quanten? Die Sonderausstellung im Wissensmuseum der Universität Göttingen geht der Formulierung der Quantenmechanik im Jahr 1925 auf den Grund und blickt dabei bis in die Gegenwart.
Die Quantenmechanik ist die kommerziell erfolgreichste physikalische Theorie aller Zeiten. Und ihr Geburtsort ist Göttingen. Erstmals wurde dort vor 100 Jahren eine mathematische Beschreibung für die Quanten-Phänomene gefunden, die das Weltbild der Physik auf den Kopf gestellt haben.
Die Ausstellung im Forum Wissen veranschaulicht, wie Wissenschaftler*innen an der Universität Göttingen zusammengearbeitet haben und bettet ihre Arbeit in internationale Forschungszusammenhänge ein. Sie zeigt, welche finanziellen, politischen und gesellschaftlichen Umstände ihren wissenschaftlichen Durchbruch ermöglichten und welche technologischen Entwicklungen auf der Quantentheorie aufbauen.
Hands-On-Experimente zur Quantenphysik veranschaulichen, dass die Welt auf atomarer Ebene anders funktioniert, als wir sie selbst wahrnehmen und erleben. Beispiele zeigen, wo Quantentechnologien gegenwärtig im Einsatz sind. Von Jugendlichen entwickelte spielerische und schauspielerische Beiträge sowie künstlerische Ausstellungseinheiten laden zur Auseinandersetzung mit der Welt der Quantenmechanik im Forum Wissen ein.

What are quantum phenomena? You don’t know the answer? You’re not alone — despite the fact that the physics of quantum mechanics is virtually omnipresent: it's found in lasers, solar cells and in every supermarket checkout, in sci-fi movies, and visions of future technologies like quantum computers. The special exhibition at the Forum Wissen, the Knowledge Museum of the University of Göttingen, explores the formulation of quantum mechanics in 1925 and takes a look at the present day.
Quantum mechanics is the most commercially successful physical theory of all time, and its birthplace is Göttingen. For the first time, a mathematical description of quantum phenomena was developed there 100 years ago, fundamentally changing the worldview of physics.
The exhibition in the Forum Wissen illustrates how scientists at the University of Göttingen worked together and presents their work in an international research context. It shows which financial, political and social circumstances made their scientific breakthrough possible and which technological developments were based on quantum theory.
Hands-on experiments on quantum physics illustrate that the way the world works at an atomic level is different from what we perceive in our daily lives. The exhibition features examples where quantum technologies are currently in use. Games and theatre sequences developed by youths as well as artworks invite visitors to explore the world of quantum mechanics in the Forum Wissen.
