Significance as a quantum place:

Research and teaching on quantum phenomena across multiple scales and at variable levels of complexity

Type of facility:
University institution
Description of the quantum location:

The Albert-Ludwigs-University's Institute of Physics (IoP) covers a broad selection of research topics across most aspects of quantum science, from particle physics to trapped ions, nanosystems, condensed matter and photonics, under diverse perspectives ranging from applied to mathematical physics. Research goes hand in hand with dedicated curricular components focussing on the foundations as well as the challenges of modern quantum science and technology, at the B.Sc., M.Sc. and M.Ed. level. Through its research, higher education and outreach programme, IoP connects the rich quantum science research landscape in the Freiburg area, enhanced by federal research institutions like Fraunhofer IAF, IPM, and IWM, and cross border research networks between Germany, France and Switzerland.
