Significance as a quantum place:

Langjährige Spitzenforschung und Lehre zur Quantenphysik der Atome, Moleküle, Oberflächen, Festkörper und Nanostrukturen

Type of facility:
University institution
Description of the quantum location:

Research at the Institute of Physics of the University of Kassel has a particular emphasis on atomic, molecular, and optical physics and the science of nanostructures, both fields with inherent links to quantum physics. Within this framework, the local research groups use complementary techniques, such as state-of-the-art laser laboratories or large-scale light sources such as synchrotrons and free-electron lasers, to conduct cutting-edge research. A particular current interest is centered around extreme light for sensing and driving molecular chirality. The Center for Interdisciplinary Nanostructure and Technology brings together researchers from various fields to work on interdisciplinary projects and questions.

The training of teachers also has a long tradition, with a dedicated chair for physics education.
